If you’ve not yet heard the news, the University of New England has received a $1 million gift to establish new programs and approaches to healthy and active aging for seniors. In Maine, which as a whole is aging very rapidly, this is outstanding news. (See UNE press release.)
Allied Cook has partnered with the University of New England on many occasions in previous decades, assisting the University in its robust efforts to help drive Maine’s economy forward. (See VIDEO, at left.) For those who may not have noticed, UNE is now the largest provider of health care professionals for the state of Maine. It is rapidly gaining a national reputation for excellence. It has established Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine, Pharmacy, Dental Medicine and the Westbrook College of Health Professions, which trains students in several disciplines including nursing, physician assistant, physical therapy and social work. UNE is also a leader in interprofessional education, or IPE as it is known nationally, the goal of which is to encourage and facilitate exceptional team-based health care.
It is gratifying to see UNE’s continued progress, and its rapid trajectory into the national spotlight. They have our hearty congratulations on this latest achievement, and our thanks for all they do for Maine citizens.
