Project Summary

The former Emery Grammar School, originally built in 1912, is currently undergoing a historic restoration and will be converted into Emery School Apartments.  Built on a brownfield, the site is being rehabilitated and upon completion, there will be 24 affordable housing units, 17 of which will be fully handicap accessible.

The 1 and 2-bedroom units will highlight original characteristics of the school including the utilization of existing tin ceilings, all interior wood and window trim will be restored and reused, the basement will feature a community room with laundry and full kitchen.  The stage on the third floor will remain and the space will be an additional community area.  In addition to a new roof, the exterior brick will be 100% repointed.

Avesta Housing and MaineHousing have partnered with AlliedCook Construction on this project.  MaineHousing Green Standards guidelines will be followed and completion is slated for late spring/early summer 2012.
