AlliedCook has provided construction management services for three expansions encompassing 86,000 square feet of production and support space at Barber Foods in Portland, Maine.
The 150,000-sq.-ft. food production facility is designed and constructed to meet FDA food grade standards. On each project AlliedCook worked closely with the owner’s facilities engineering, design team and equipment vendors to develop an overall project approach to meet Barber’s schedule and budget.
AlliedCook first expanded the facility by building a 50,000-sq.-ft., semi-automated production plant, an addition to the original plant adjacent to an existing rail line.
AlliedCook was later retained to build a 10,000-sq.-ft. addition to house a new packaging facility on an existing parking area also bordering the rail line.
AlliedCook also retrofitted a 10,000-sq.-ft. warehouse area to house a new production line and support space. The work was completed with minimal impact on operations in the plant.
A final 26,000-sq.-ft. addition featuring an advanced high-speed production process and flash freezer was completed in 2001.
